Honoring American Veterans this Tuesday
November 7, 2014
A Day to honor American Veterans of all Wars
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are more than 22 million veterans who have served in the armed forces and have since reintegrated back into society. As a nation, we honor these brave men and women on Veterans Day – a day that exists to pay tribute veterans, both living and deceased. It’s an especially important time to honor living veterans who have served honorably during wartime or peacetime. This year, Veterans Day takes place on Tuesday, November 11.
In 1938, an act made November 11 a Federal holiday. It wasn’t officially named “Veterans Day” until 1954, when Congress amended the 1938 act that had named the holiday “Armistice Day,” in honor of the day World War I ended. It was renamed Veterans Day to recognize veterans of all wars. Please learn more about the history of Veterans Day by reading this blog.
