Truck Accident in Florence KY Halts Traffic for Hours

October 13, 2015

a big truck in the road

A section of Northbound I-71/75 at US 42 was at a standstill on Monday morning after a truck accident that resulted in the truck driver getting injured. Because of the magnitude of the crash, the highway didn’t reopen until well through the lunch hour, at 12:30 p.m. The truck driver said that he swerved to avoid hitting a pickup truck that had pulled out in front of him.

The truck accident occurred at about 9:15 in Florence, Kentucky. The semi-truck’s cargo caught fire as a result of the accident, setting pieces of Styrofoam aflame that the truck was transporting. Fortunately no other injuries or fatalities have been reported as a result of the wreck. Because of the size and weight of semi-trucks, and because they may be hauling flammable or otherwise dangerous materials, truck accidents often result in catastrophic, sometimes fatal physical injuries such as:

  • Brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Amputation/Loss of limbs
  • Scarring, burns and disfigurement

It’s not always immediately clear who is at fault in these types of wrecks. It appears in this case that the driver of the smaller vehicle may have caused the accident, but oftentimes truck driver fatigue, recklessness or other factors can contribute to these life-altering accidents.
