Stay Safe during Louisvilles Snow Storm

With a snow storm in full force in Louisville, the risk of auto accidents and personal injury caused by the extreme weather is high. Stay safe with a few precautions:

• Avoid traveling if at all possible. Jefferson County Public Schools canceled classes for the day. Stay home from work if you are able. Traveling in this snow storm will be hazardous.
• Make sure your vehicle is stocked with an emergency kit. It should contain water, high-calorie snacks, blankets, and a hat and gloves, in case you get stuck for hours.
• If you get stuck in your vehicle, don’t get out and walk along the highways as you could be injured by passing vehicles.
• Locate one or more flashlights in your home and get batteries if you need them. The storm may cause power outages, and lit candles can cause a fire inside your home.
• Never use an oven or heating appliances intended for the outdoors to warm your home.

Metro Louisville is currently under a winter storm warning, with the forecast calling for periods of heavy snow between now and 7 pm. The snow will begin diminishing overnight with the possibility of some light flurries into Saturday morning. Meteorologists with WHAS11 are predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow for Metro Louisville and as much as a foot or more in other areas.
