Off-Duty Paramedic Assists Two Women after Crash on I-64

An off-duty paramedic is being praised for his selfless impulse to assist two teenage girls after their car crashed while travelling westbound on I-64 this past Saturday morning. According to WHAS 11, the police say the driver of the vehicle lost control, which led to the non-fatal Louisville-area auto accident.

In the news report, the paramedic says he made a tourniquet when he came upon the young women at the scene – an act that WHAS 11 says may have saved a life. He is employed with the Lexington Fire Department, but was not on duty at the time. The emergency response professional just happened to be driving by at the exact right moment. He told WHAS 11 he did the same thing any emergency personnel would have done in that situation.

Every day, emergency responders save lives threatened by car crashes and minimize non-lethal injuries. In the blink of an eye, an auto accident can turn a life upside down, and forever change the course of a life. Fortunately, WHAS 11 reports that the two young women injured in this accident will recover without severe injury.
