Nation's Roadways busier over Labor Day Weekend

The long weekend leading up to Labor Day is a busy time for the nation’s roadways. More travelers on the roads means a greater likelihood of auto accidents and the life-altering injuries and fatalities these accidents can cause. The National Safety Council recommends the following measures to keep you and your passengers safe during Labor Day weekend travel:

• Always wear a seat belt and make sure your passengers do as well.
• Make your vehicle a distraction-free zone. Do not talk or text on your phone while driving, and limit your use of in-dash electronic systems to only what is necessary for navigation.
• If you plan to drink alcoholic beverages, designate a sober driver or plan ahead for taking a taxi or public transportation.

Across Indiana and Louisiana, there are likely to be additional troopers on patrol.

Also, if you are planning to go for a road trip over the long weekend, you should take steps to ensure your vehicle is in good working order. A car that is less likely to have a mechanical failure may protect you from getting in an accident. Taking a few precautionary steps as described by the National Safety Council can help you and your family stay safe this holiday weekend.
