Drunk driving deaths decreased by 2.5 percent last year, but even with that decline, more than 10,000 people died in DUI-related auto accidents in 2013, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Drunk driving continues to be a major contributor to injuries and fatalities every year in the US.

Unfortunately, the holiday season tends to mean more drunk drivers on the road. From December 15 through January 1, the drunk driving campaign known as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” will take place across the country. Along with the launch of this campaign, the US Department of Transportation and the NHTSA announced a new mobile app called SaferRide. This app provides you with 3 simple choices when you’ve had too much to drink:

• “Get taxi”
• “Call friend”
• “Where am I?”

The third option pulls up a map of your location. The transportation agencies hope this app along with the launch of a DUI crackdown will help prevent drunk driving accidents and the tragedies those auto accidents cause. You can get the app for Android devices on Google Play or for Apple devices at the Itunes Store. During the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign, thousands of law enforcement officials will be out to pull over careless, drunk drivers on the nation’s roads.
