Crane Collapses Near East End Bridge

This past Friday, a 20-foot crane collapsed in an area near the East End Bridge, on the Kentucky side of the bridge, according to Louisville Business First. Fortunately, no one was injured by the crane. Developers believe a mechanical failure or high winds on Friday may have caused the collapse, but they won’t know for sure until they remove the crane later this week and inspect the site. Developers do not expect this incident to delay the planned opening of the bridge later this year, although construction work in the immediate area of the crane collapse has been temporarily halted.

Construction accidents are all too common. Fortunately no one was injured in this crane collapse. Construction workers, including operators of cranes and heavy equipment, can suffer serious injuries, such as:

• Brain injuries
• Injuries to the spine, back and neck
• Amputation/loss of limbs
• Disfigurement
• Burns

Hard-working women and men in the construction industry face such risks every day. Construction employers in Louisville by and large do a great job of minimizing risks, but sometimes, an accident like the crane collapse at the East End Bridge is unavoidable. In such situations, any worker who is injured may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits to help them cope with the financial strains caused by their injuries.
