Auto Accidents increasing in Louisville
January 4, 2016
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the number of auto accidents in the Louisville area is one of the highest it’s been in the last decade. The LMPD responded to nearly 30,000 vehicle accidents in 2015, according to Wave 3 News*.
The 30,000 vehicle accidents are made up of the following:
- 7,583 people suffered injuries in these accidents
- 80 people were killed in these accidents
- 23 percent of the 30,000 accidents involved alcohol or drugs
- Most of the deadly accidents took place in Southwest Louisville
The LMPD will use these statistics to focus their efforts and resources, including looking at how to prevent accidents along Dixie Highway, says Wave 3.
Nobody wants to get in an accident. Serious injuries at their most tragic can lead to disability or death. Even less catastrophic injuries can make it impossible for you to go to work and get around comfortably. We can all do our part to be responsible drivers and to prevent car accidents:
- Don’t drive when you’re drowsy or tired – pull over and rest if necessary
- Don’t drink and drive
- Don’t drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Don’t try to multi-task while you’re driving
- Don’t text or talk on your cell phone while driving – even conversing via a hands-free device can be distracting
